Rescued from Danger, Embraced with Love: Sharon’s Story

Sharon smiling with her Kinship Family

Sharon* is a 5-year-old girl who was born and raised on the streets of Kitale. Her parents separated while still living on the streets, and she remained with her mother. Sadly, her mother later got involved with another man, Sharon’s stepfather, who became a threat to the child’s safety.

Before the situation worsened, someone intervened. A Good Samaritan noticed what was happening and took Sharon before alerting our social worker, Leah.

Leah acted quickly and rescued Sharon, protecting her from what could have been an even more devastating trauma. At the time of her rescue, Sharon was already deeply traumatized and emotionally shut down. She stayed under Leah’s care, receiving compassion and attention.

Sharon was eventually welcomed into the Bosnia Kinship Family, where she is now safe, loved, and beginning to heal. Though her journey is still unfolding, she is making progress every day, smiling more, interacting with others, and slowly recovering her childhood.

Sharon is expected to start school, a beautiful new chapter for a little girl who has already overcome so much. Her story is a testimony of hope, rescue, and the transformational power of love and care.

Thank you for being the reason Sharon’s story did not end on the streets. Because of your compassion, a frightened little girl was rescued before deeper trauma could take root. Because of your generosity, she had a safe place to sleep instead of a sidewalk, warm meals instead of uncertainty, and caring arms around her instead of fear. You made it possible for Leah to respond quickly. You made room for Sharon in the Bosnia Kinship Family. You gave her the gift of safety, stability, and the chance to simply be five years old again.

Many children like Sharon now have a safe place to call home because of you. They are known, loved, protected, and given the opportunity to dream again. Thank you for standing in the gap. Thank you for choosing rescue. Thank you for being part of a story that is rewriting a little girl’s future. One filled with hope, healing, and belonging.

May God richly bless you.

Lots of love.
